
Ogun State First Lady, Dr Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has pointed out the need for citizens to agree with the government to fight against substance and drug abuse
According to her statement, the First Lady made this call when she led an advocacy walk in Abeokuta in celebration of the 2024 United Nations International Day against Drug and Illicit Drug Trafficking.
Mrs. Abiodun who also is the chairperson of the Ogun State Drug Control Committee and Ambassador of the War Against Drug Abuse lamented the alarming rate of the effects of drug abuse, and common crimes among the youths
She said, “The increasing rate of drug abuse and substance by our youths needs a swift interference of all and diverse to eradicate drug abuse.”
She also emphasized that prevention is better than cure and that full efforts should be directed toward preventing drug abuse. This will avert the grave consequences of drug abuse at home, in schools, in society, and in the state at large. She called on all stakeholders, religious leaders, and security agencies to join in the fight and to engage in public enlightenment on the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.
She promised to continue standing strong and cooperating with the Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement uAgency.
