The President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, and also the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, as pronounced Sunday, July 7th 2024, as the first day of Muharram, which marks the beginning of the new Islamic year 1446 after Hijrah.
This was announced in a statement signed Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman of Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, on Friday, July 5th, 2024.
Junaidu said, “The national and the various moon sighting committees across the country did not receive any report on the sighting of the new moon of Muharram on Friday, 5th July, 2024, which is the 29th of Dhul’Hijja 1445 AH, hence Saturday, 6th of July, is the 30th of Dhul’Hijja.”
The Sultan congratulates all Nigerian Muslims on the new year.
He strongly advised them to continue praying for peace, progress and development of Nigeria.
