The Lagos State Government, has come to a conclusion on reintroducing monthly sanitation in the state, after eight years.
This is to be launched on the 13th of July,2024, at Lagos Island.
However, it is still not clear if this monthly sanitation will be the same as the cancelled environmental sanitation.
The Lagos State Government, had cancelled the monthly environmental sanitation on the 23rd of November 2016, after it suffered legal defeat over movement restrictions during the monthly sanitation.
While announcing the cancellation then, the Lagos State Government said the decision to cancel the monthly sanitation was a solution arrived at during it’s Executive Council meeting, which during the meeting agreed to review the environmental laws in the state, to meet up with the present day issues and to also create and promote a clean and healthy environment.
The Governor continued that due to the present economic situation of the country, it is not appropriate to keep people restricted for hours, in a mega city like Lagos, when everyone is supposed to be up and about with their activities.
In the last two decades, Lagos has grown into a large mega city, which comes with huge environmental problems, associated with managing over twenty million population of people.
