Speaking to New York Post on Sunday, Former US President, Donald Trump, said “he was supposed to be dead” after surviving an assassination attempt at his Presidential campaign rally on Saturday, July 13.
In an interview he had on his plane en route to Milwaukee, going for the Republican National Convention, where his to be confirmed as the Party Presidential candidate.
78 years old Donald Trump, was hit by a gunman on his right ear, at his campaign rally on Saturday.
A bystander was killed while two other were injured. Trump left the venue with a bloody face.
Trump said if he had not tilted his head to the right side, to read a chart on illegal immigrants, he would have been dead.
He said: “By luck or by God, many people are saying it’s by God I’m still here.”
He further went ahead to praise the Secret Service agents for killing the shooter. He said:
“They took him out with one shot right between the eyes, They did a fantastic job,”
“It’s surreal for all of us.” he added.
The image of Trump raising a strong fist as Secret Service agents took him away has made front pages around the world and had spread virally on social media.
The former president talked about the picture when asked by the Post, saying: “A lot of people say it’s the most iconic photo they’ve ever seen,” he added “They’re right and I didn’t die. Usually you have to die to have an iconic picture.”
Trump said after the attempt on his life he had to rewrite the speech he had prepared for the Republican National convention.
He said he had “prepared an extremely tough speech” about Biden’s “horrible administration. But I threw it away” for the one he hopes will “unite our country.”
“But I don’t know if that’s possible. People are very divided.” He said.
